The Olde World Map

Olde World MapI’m very excited to announce that I finally finished The Olde World Map! I finished it last June, a couple of weeks before I gave birth. We have only just found the time to frame it and put it up but I am so glad it is now on the wall. This took me nearly 3 years to make – although I did have some breaks from it. Most of the time I loved making it and it is now on display in my hallway. I am really, really pleased with it.

Hooded Towel

Hooded TowelThis weekend I learnt how to make something very important: the hooded towel! I made a couple using old towels I had at home before I paid any money for new towels. The above image shows the completed towel for my 8 month old son. We have found that shops don’t tend to sell hooded towels in any size larger than new born so I am pleased I have taught myself how to do this. To teach myself I used this tutorial, which I found on Pinterest. I am really happy with the final result and have made one as a baby shower present – let’s hope they like it too!

Here is one of my practice towels:

The Present!

So I have been working on this again. It is coming along nicely – I hope the recipient likes it! The back stitch is tough as it isn’t neatly along the edge. However it does make the pattern look good

The Surprise!

So I’m making a present! Here is the right bottom corner:

Now the corrections have made I have started enjoying this. It is going to be great!

The Olde World Map

I’ve been spending some time this week on the Map. I still love it – however long it takes! I ought to put it away though and continue the surprise – but that keeps going wrong :-(

However, here is the update:

As you can see the bottom detail is nearly all stitched and a lot of the empty space is starting to be filled with the pattern. I have done some of the outlining as well as there is so much to do. I really love this piece, however time consuming it is.

The Olde World Map

I have put this one away as I am making a present for someone but I made some good progress with the bottom left corner:

There are two areas of backstitch that I have completed – the edging and one of the crests:

I love this, even if it is taking a long time :-)

The Map

It’s back out! As there is so much backstitch I have been doing that as well as the normal cross stitch. I’d forgotten how much I love making this and how much I love watching this grow. Here is where I am up too:
